Our Founder's Roots

 Bedward Jerk House was inspired by the joy of cooking for family and friends. But it wasn't just about the food; it was about the love that was shared around a table. It was infectious, and it soon became apparent that it was not enough to keep this passion locked within the confines of a home kitchen. Natalee Bedward the visionary behind Bedward Jerk House, felt a calling to share the love and flavours of Jamaica with the community, to create a space where friends, family, and strangers alike could come together, enjoy a meal, and feel the warmth of authentic Jamaican hospitality.

Natalee hails from a humble upbringing in Jamaica. Growing up in the vibrant coastal town of Kingston, she was immersed in the colourful tapestry of Jamaican life. From bustling marketplaces to the rhythmic beats of reggae music, every aspect of Jamaican culture contributed to Natalee’s culinary education.

The Heart of Home

One of the fondest memories Natalee holds is watching her grandmother craft the perfect jerk seasoning, a family secret passed down through generations. Watching her parents continue that passion for authentic Jamaican cuisine, were moments when the intricacies of jerk cooking were revealed – the balance of scotch bonnet peppers, the smoky allure of pimento wood, and the slow, patient grilling that transforms ordinary meat into something extraordinary. Naturally, cooking became her passion. 

Craig Bedward, Natalee's husband, would watch in awe as his grandparents transformed humble ingredients into a symphony of flavours. The cornerstone of his family gatherings was his grandparent's curry goat. The delectable curry goat was always prepared with a recipe passed down through generations. 

Friends and family have always been at the heart of Bedward Jerk House. Their meals aren’t just dishes; they’re a culmination of love, care, and cherished family recipes.

Community Connection

Their journey began a few years ago when they hosted a garage sale in their neighbourhood, and their food became an instant hit. This success led them to organize family BBQs and personal events at their home. As they continued to receive positive feedback, the idea of hosting Bed & Breakfast guests started to gain momentum. Eventually, they decided to take a bold step and test the waters by attending a carnival in North Collingwood, which turned out to be a resounding success. This led to the establishment of Bedward Jerk House on August 12, 2023, where the soul of Jamaican cuisine could truly thrive.

The Collingwood community has embraced Bedward Jerk House with open arms. As word of mouth spread, the love for the restaurant extended beyond the family table. Collingwood residents quickly recognized the authenticity and soul in every bite, making the restaurant a hub of community connection. The love and appreciation that Collingwood residents have for Bedward Jerk House has made it a treasured gem in the neighbourhood.

Today, Craig and Natalee Bedward stand as a power couple, combining their expertise and love for Jamaican cuisine to further elevate Bedward Jerk House to new heights. Together, they share not only a deep bond but also a commitment to preserving and sharing the flavours and traditions that define their Jamaican roots. Their dream is to introduce the world to the rich and diverse flavours of Jamaica, one plate at a time.
